We were very lucky to have a wonderful local lady Deborah who brought us to this great restaurant to experience the authentic taste of Soul food. It was amazing and did not disappoint. A family run business opened in 1939, it provides delicious home cooking at very reasonable prices plus a great menu to choose from.The staff were so friendly and welcoming, it was like being invited to a friend's house for lunch. We had the Gumbo,Greens and Bar-b-Q Ribs,Greens and Smothered Ribs, corn bread and potato salad, Scrumptious !

Great southern food,prices and the best iced tea in the south.

I had to move away, but I miss you so much! Never have I ever had better food in all my travels! Your dark meat and greens I dream about with some rice and gravy! Oh and the corn bread dear heavenly Jesus your corn bread!! I’m drooling as I type about it! I google maps you constantly just to make sure your still there! I will see you again. When I think about home and I think about the best food of my life I think about you! Keep doing you! Cause y’all are amazing!!!!!!!

Went with a large group. Wow, not what I expected. The cabbage was really old, maybe a week old. The salad was wilted and old as well. We’ve nicknamed the place “Hurts” because two of us are having stomach issues.

The food is always really good, awesome soul food, that feels homemade and don’t forget their sweet tea. It’s Lit!!

The food is fantastic. Southern cooking at it's best. Try the ribs and red beans. Yummy 😋

Best soul food in New Orleans

Hurst is homey and waitress made us feel like family.

It's a great little spot just outside of the airport, likely a local favorite. The stuff is SO NICE, WELCOMING and FRIENDLY! They gave us suggestions on where to party and told us about a local festival that would be happening there next day. The older lady at the counter, Ms. Janelle was SO sweet, pretty soft spoken and very funny! I think I'll ALWAYS stop in whenever I come back to NOLA! ****FYI**** This is A CASH ONLY establishment!

Pleasant atmosphere. Awesome service. Fabulous food. Never could eat all my food in one serving, always has a to go box.😀 Also serves the best cold ice tea. Love this place and the people who works there. #Number One.

They cooked a long strang of hair a my brother-in-law's food (as in under the batter) ... need I say more about why I only gave them 1 star??They were very apologetic but it's a sight I don't think I can ever get out of my head to get me to go back and eat there again

Food is very good,really nice workers,sweet tea is just right. Only thing I will say is they should be able to do debit or credit cards as well as cash.i think they would do more busines.I do not like to carry cash in today's time...

My friends from all around. Please take a minute to read this comment. You must and I repeat you "MUST" go here on a Friday and try their dark meat plate with greens, cornbread, and rice with gravy. Once you've had their fried chicken, you will just keep coming back for more. The staff is friendly and you can definitely feel the soul.

Food is very good I eat here at least once every two weeks. On Thursday meal I had the Turkey wing plate with the ends. No meat.

The sweetest and kindest staff and the most incredible soul food I’ve ever had. I couldn’t decide between the fried chicken/red beans and rice or the shrimp po’ boy so I got both.

Excellent home cooked food the way my Momma cooked. The staff is very warm, friendly as well as professional. Now back to the food. I had turkey wings with rice,gravy, string needs and corn bread. My husband had the red beans and fried chicken. I have never seen him eat an entire meal at one time but he did that time. Today l had greens and smothered pork chops and it did not disappoint. The prices are very reasonable. Cash only. Quiet setting. Very diverse repeat customers.

Great little restaurant. Run very well. Lots of care goes into making sure the customers are happy with their food.

Burger was frozen and tasted like elementary cafeteria burger, greens were frozen and flavorless, fried chicken was slightly overcooked and underseasoned, sweet tea was entirely too damn sweet. Staff is nice but the food needs serious improvement. There is no way in hell this restaurant should have a 5 star review.

Located conveniently near the airport, we stopped in after we landed. The smothered steak was tender, and the rice and gravy were delicious! I'd definitely visit there again. They also have a beautiful juke box, if you'd like to hear some soulful tunes.

The fries were cold, peas tasted like they came straight out the can Mac and cheese had cheese slice threw on top, rice was gummy for cabbage and only had 6 shrimp on the bun😩. The whole experience was HORRIBLE!!!! Run.... not worth the price.

Great home cooking food

This was a nice cozy family run restaurant. Grandkids were even there helping out. The food was really tasty. Got it to go on the way to the airport. They packed and separated the food so that my salad didn't get red beans and rice all over it.

I suggest that you are quite hungry as the portions are large however you can always take away a doggy bag. Be prepared to wait as food is cooked to order but worth the wait and they only accept cash. As a traveller from across the pond, this was a wonderful experience. Enjoy
